It all started on ASLO 2018 as a discussion after one of the presentations and now its a paper! Hopefully you will find it as interesting as we think this concept of cryptic constituents in aquatic ecosystems is. We give several examples of carbon and nitrogen fluxes not visual at first but detected using combination of methods, for example mass spectrometry combined with theoretical mass balance calculations.
