New paper on temperature adaptation in Skeletonema

We have a new paper out demonstrating that the diatom Skeletonema marinoi has adapted to eutrophication by shifting its temporal niche to earlier in the season. The study was conducted in Finland and paper written in collaboration between scientists in Finland and SLU in Sweden. We hatched resting cells of diatoms from different levels of eutrophication and monitored growth rates in the lab under three different temperatures and we also observed natural blooms of the taxa to complete the story.
